The American Ethical Union

The American Ethical Union was founded in 1889 by the Ethical Culture Societies of New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Saint Louis. Today, it serves all the Ethical Societies in the United States, networking among the local congregations, and providing central planning and training.

The AEU serves member Societies in various ways. It advises local groups on membership growth, the development of more effective ethical communities, lifespan religious education for children and adults, and planning for the future. It also provides training for professional and lay leaders. Anyone who is a member of an Ethical Society is also a member of the AEU. Individuals who do not live close to an Ethical Society are welcome to become "At-Large" members of the AEU, with all its concomitant benefits.

If you don’t live in Brooklyn, and would like to learn more about Ethical Culture, you can always e-mail BSEC, but you might also want to get in touch with the AEU. If you’re already interested in Ethical Culture, and would like to find out about becoming a member-at-large, or better yet, beginning a start-up Ethical Community, by all means contact the AEU.
